Belconnen had mixed results in Sundays PL clashes with Woden yesterday. In a match that was always going to be tough in 16s, with 3 players unavailable, Woden ran out 4-0 winners. The 18s finished 0-2, where the Devils were very unlucky not to take at least a point from their ever improving performances. A dodgy decision in the second half allowed Woden to score the first via a free kick, and then pinched a 2nd towards the end as the Devils pushed forward. In the PPL a lack of composed finishing kept Woden in the match and after they snatched the lead midway through the second half the Devils showed good character to find an equaliser they always deserved. The top of the table clash was always expected to be close, however the Devils strikers will be dissapointed they didn't kill the game off in the first half. The PL followed a similar path to the PPL with the Devils creating a host of chances but in their favour they managed to score 2 before half time. In the second half the chances kept coming but the goals dried up and Woden were able to make an interesting last few minutes when they scored a 90th minute penalty. The win for the PL cut the gap to Canberra FC to 2 after they were held to 2-2 with Tuggeranong. Next weeks games sees the PL and PPL teams make the trip to Cooma (on Sunday) where the teams will be chasing more points to stay in the race for top spot. 16s and 18s will be played at Marist. |
