Michael Reeves and Tai Smith scored goals in Belconnen's opening Fed Cup game against Canberra FC to earn the Devils a 2-2 draw. Reeves on debut for the first team, opened the scoring late in the first half when the ball could only be half cleared by an FC defender in the 6 yard box from a cross. Moments after, the halftime whistle went.
In the second half FC pushed for an equaliser, and after going close a few times finally gor their reward through John Glass. Soon after they scored again to take the lead. With 15 minutes to go, Tai Smith showed determination to win the ball back in the FC half, and dribbled past 2 players before shooting into the bottm corner from 20 yards. That levelled it at 2-2 and even though both teams had chances following, that's how it ended. Ben Cheyne was outstanding in net for the Devils pulling off a number of top shelf saves through the match, while Phil Borgeud and Zac Maybury were excellent in the centre of defence. In Belconnens other group match, Weston beat Tuggeranong 2-1. Belconnen play their second Fed Cup match against Tuggeranong this Sunday 7 March, at Hawker at 12pm. |
