After losing a dreaded penalty shootout against Goulburn on Wednesday night, Belconnen now have to backup and play for 3rd place. ANU will be the Devils opponents as they were beaten by Canberra FC 2-5 after extra-time. ANU led 2-1 until a 92nd minute equaliser from Deakin sent the game to extra-time. Belconnen deservedly took the lead in their semi final against Goulburn and it stayed that way at hlaf time. However a slow start to the second half allowed Goulburn their first real chance of the match and they happily took it. After that both teams created chances, with Belconne having the better of them but being unable to put one in the back of the net. As time went on it seemed it just wasn't going to going in for the Devils, including a 118th minute strike from Callum Beaton that only just flew wide. Into penalties it went and Goulburn took the match with the 12th spot kick, winning 6-5 (5-4 penalties). The 3rd place playoff will be played Saturday 27 August at 3pm at Woden Enclosed. |
