Belconnen took 3rd place in the Federation Cup after beating ANU 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Woden Enclosed.

The first half started well for the Devils after good chances were being created from the ANU back 4 getting caught flat on a few occasions. Unfotunately, like Wednesday in the semi final, the players couldn't make it count so the game stayed level.

Against the run of play ANU took the lead. A mix up in defence for the Devils led to the ball landing right at the ANU strikers feet and he took the chance to make it 1-0.

The Devils fought back and 5minutes later equalised through David Leet. Some good interchange passes outside the area led to Leet receiving the ball in space and he drove the ball low into the far corner.

It wasn't until the 70th minute that the winner came. After just seeing a goal disallowed by Cam Reinhart, the Devils stayed in ANUs half and created a chance from a corner, when Reinhart volleyed a cross/shot across the area and it went straight to Jason Odwyer. Odwyer took one touch and like Leet earlier, drove it under the ANU keeper.

That's how it stayed, and Belconnen took 3rd place.

The next competitive game forthe Devils is round 1 of the season when they play Woden at Woden Enclosed on Sunday 11 April at 3pm.
