Belconnen United vs Tuggeranong
In Premier League 18’s Belconnen United were able to defeat a testing Tuggeranong United side 4-0 at Mckellar Stadium. The Blue Devils started very well with Emma Baxter controlling play wide on the left and combining well with Jamie Duke and Mikayla van Deyk. Nicole Jalocha was first to open the scoring for the home team on the 4th minute of play, with an individual moment of brilliance when she carried the ball from the left flank, dibbled past 2 defenders to neatly slot the ball into the top right corner of the net. Through some great interplay in the 31st minute, Jalocha was once again in the action, a one on one with the Tuggeranong goalkeeper making no mistake in calmly placing her shot into the back of the Tuggeranong net. A Sam Roff shot on goal in the 36th minute was parried by the goalkeeper only for it to roll in the path of an advancing Caitlin Cantrill who was able to score. Jess Giovinazzo’s presence in goal was certainly noticed when she made 3 quality saves in the first half to deny Tuggeranong. Although the second stanza didn’t resemble the first, Belconnen continued to find the better of play in the first 15 minutes of the half. On the 79th minute, Emma Bestek burst through on a Jalocha ball to race towards goal. Bestek attempted a shot on goal only for it to bounce off the goalkeeper and Roff was able to help in past the advancing keeper for the 4th goal. With a good performance and 3 points in the bag, the young Blue Devils are looking forward to next weekend’s fixture against the a formidable Woden Valley team. Premier League Reserves were able to put behind them last week’s 1-1 draw with Weston Creek to claim a 3-1 win over Tuggeranong United at McKellar Stadium. Belconnen were on the offensive early, but shots on goal were restricted by a resilient Tuggeranong United side playing 10 players behind the ball. A tremendous but fortunate 35 metre shot by Jess Goyne on the half an hour mark, ended in Belconnen’s first goal with the Tuggeranong goalkeeper finger tipping the ball into the roof of her own net. Tuggeranong responded early after the interval, with a lapse in keeping possession allowing the away team to catch the Belconnen defence napping and score past a hapless Jess Giovinazzo. The introduction of three U/18 players in Lyndall Slater, Caitlin Cantril and Nicole Jalocha certainly changed the tempo of the game with Cantrill netting Belconnen’s second with a one on one with the keeper. Nicole Jalocha was next to score with a superb finish on the 77th minute, to ensure a 2 goal buffer and 3 points going to the home side. Belconnen's Premier League claimed the League Championship after being pushed by Tuggeranong United all the way at McKellar Park before downing the south side outfit 2-1. Katie Woodman got the Blue Devils off to a perfect start when she was able to beat two Tuggeranong defenders at the top of the box to then hit a sweet shot past TUFC's shot stopper in the 19th minute. Caitlin Munoz doubled the lead just nine minutes from the half after Amy Spence played her through and Munoz made no mistake as she slotted it back stick. HoweverTuggeranong would have the last say of the half after a free kick from Annica Schoo hit the underside of the crossbar and Tuggeranong were quicker to react with Sophie Black heading it in from close range. The second half was a stalemate with both sides unable to gain control. Tuggeranong continued to try and even up the match but on several occasions were stopped by a defiant Blue Devils defence. Belconnen managed to hold their nerve and claim the Tradies League Championship for 2011 as the game ended 2-1. |
